(Basic First Aid)

Course Description

Foundation First Aid is the second unit in the New Zealand first aid certificate trilogy. A learner wishing to complete this unit must already hold unit standard 6402.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course the learner will be able to demonstrate;

  • How to assess and manage a person's condition.
  • Conditions covered include; shock, bleeding, burns, fractures, soft tissue injuries, poisonings, heart attack, asthma, stroke, seizures, and diabetes.
  • Apply knowledge you gained from unit standard 6402 into the above scenarios.

Certification

This module is assessed by way of a formal practical assessment and undertaken in small groups. Please note these assessments are practical and learners should wear appropriate clothing as some situations will require them to sit kneel or lie on the floor. Upon successful completion of this unit, the student will have achieved a Foundation First Aid Certificate.  They will have completed eight hours of learning and assessment. In order for a learner to achieve a full workplace certificate, they will need to complete unit standard 6400.
