…the body part in a clean plastic bag if available, leaving some air inside for protection. Place this bag into a second bag containing ice or cold water — do not place the body part directly on ice or in water.

Label the bag with:

  • the person’s name
  • the destination hospital
  • the name of the body part

Ensure the body part travels with the injured person.
