Pad placement is important. The diagram below shows the positioning of the pads on an Adult.

The AED will analyse the information it receives from the pads and decide whether there is a heart rhythm; it can shock. If there is not, it will provide instructions about what to do next. If it does find a shockable rhythm, it will advise the user to take the next step in the process.
