…..to access a defibrillator. The main point of today, though, is to emphasise that defibrillators are designed to be idiot-proof. They take the risk away from making mistakes by analysing whether or not the machine needs to provide a shock to a person. The name Automated External Defibrillator (AED) provides some clues. They are automated because it requires human control to operate the machine. A defibrillator will advise the user precisely what to do and only allow a shock to be delivered if it finds specific criteria. They are used externally outside of the body. some people are fitted with internal machines.
