The cost of these machines and development of Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) programmes will hopefully result in more defibrillators being available in New Zealand.
In different parts of the world defibrillators have been made available to trained members of the public and place at identified local points to maximise their availability in areas where large numbers of people gather. The results have seen survival rates from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) improve dramatically in recent times. The machines are critical in achieving increased survival outcomes from SCA.
