Where bleeding is not controlled by direct pressure, alternative methods of bleeding control should be sought. In recent times the use of an arterial tourniquet has once more become acceptable. A tourniquet should only be used if a person has been trained in its use. Currently, this piece of equipment is considered to be outside the scope of first aid training. Call 111.
