Your communication skills can have as much impact at a medical emergency as any treatment that may be provided. If someone is scared, reassuring them and gaining their trust will allow you access to their personal space to provide the necessary care. If someone is screaming and shouting, remaining calm and lowering your voice can have a positive influence as can telling them who you are and asking them their name. Requesting permission to come closer and explaining why and what you want to do are all techniques that can help.
