Chest compressions on an adult are performed by placing the heel of one hand in the centre of the chest then placing the other hand on top. Compressions are started after we establish the man in our scenario (see the previous tip #33) is not breathing normally. Push down on the chest to a depth greater than five centimetres, which equates to approximately a third of an adult’s chest depth.
