Course Description

New Zealand First Aid Certificate is the final component, this unit standard covered is 6400 Manage first aid in an emergency situation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course the learner will be able to demonstrate; 

  • How to assess and manage a person's condition.
  • Conditions covered include fractures with complications, burns, major wounds, internal bleeding, head injuries, suspected spinal injuries, severe allergic reaction, heat and cold emergencies.
  • Apply knowledge gained from unit standard 6402 and 6401 into the above scenarios.

Certification

This module is once again assessed by way of a formal practical assessment and undertaken in small groups. Please note these assessments are practical and learners should wear appropriate clothing as some situations will require them to sit kneel or lie on the floor. Upon successful completion of this unit, the student will have achieved a full Workplace First Aid Certificate.  They will have completed twelve hours of learning and assessment. Additional learning can be obtained by completing a pre-hospital emergency care course.
